Cisco® Mobile Access Router (MAR)
When deploying
the Cisco® Mobility Solution, Internetworking Training services also include a hands-on instructor-led
training course for your IT Staff to effectively
utilize, configure and troubleshoot the new
Mobile Access Router.
Cisco® Mobility
and Wireless Solutions using Mobile
IP and the new
Mobile Access Router
(MAR) focus on
business-critical wireless solutions
to extend access to applications, Web
content, and communications channels
to workers away from their desks, which
improves employee responsiveness to customers
and partners, increases business productivity,
and enhances collaboration.
The Cisco® 3200 Mobile Access Router is a high-performance
router in a compact form. It is ideally suited
for integration in vehicles. It offers secure
data, voice and video communications, seamless
mobility and interoperability across multiple
wireless networks.
The Cisco® 3200 Mobile Access Router extends
the edge of the IP network to a new frontier
of Networks-in-Motion, and facilitates new
and exciting applications in the defense, public
safety, homeland security, and commercial transportation
markets.
- The Cisco® 3200 is a high performance mobile access
router that uses the PC-104 Plus platform.
- The
Mobile Access Router is a modular, circuit
board construction router which consists
of a main board known as the Mobile Access
Router Card (the brains of the router -
the route processor), with additional cards
providing interfaces and other features.
The Mobile Access Router
(MAR)
The MAR is a mobile router that moves networks,
not hosts. The hosts are unaware that they
are not on their home network. Unlike Mobile
IP nodes, no software or client configuration
is performed in any way. The MAR, along
with other configured Cisco® routers, does all
the work!

- Mobile Router
sends Registration Request [RRQ] to Home
Agent
- Host B sends
information to Mobile Router via it's Home
Address
- Home Agent
forwards packets to Mobile Router via Care
of Address [CoA]
In the above figure, Host B sends data to
host on network 172.68.69.0. The Cisco® router
running the Home agent forwards the packets
to the networks in their new location by using
a Foreign agent. The Home agent is always aware
of where the networks are located by advertisements
from the Foreign agents.
The Cisco® Mobile Networks feature comprises
three components - the Mobile Access Router
(MR), Home Agent (HA), and Foreign Agent (FA).
Along with MAR deployment, Internetworking Training includes an instructor-led training class
for the Mobile Access Router which includes
configuration and hands-on training. Experience
